CHRISTUS Spohn Hospital Corpus Christi - Memorial, TX has two openings for a CPE Residency position from 11/30/2009-8/29/2010. Annual Stipend: $27.000, tuition $250 per unit, application fee $50; free parking; health benefits. Prerequisite: one unit of CPE.
One of the positions has as its clinical setting to community agencies, one homeless reintegration shelter and a parenting organization for the prevention of child abuse. The other position will be located in the hospital setting.

Baptist Health Medical Center, Little Rock, Arkansas -
Residency openings beginning September 2009 – August 2010. Baptist Health Little Rock is a 750 bed multi-service medical center with a sixty year plus tradition of chaplaincy services. The Baptist Health System is the largest health care system in the state. BHLR was one of the first accredited ACPE programs in the Southwest Region. Accredited CPE was dropped during the 1970s and an unaccredited program continued until September of 2008. The center is requesting to become an accredited ACPE center and is currently a satellite program of Integris Baptist Medical Center, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. South Texas Veterans Health Care System The South Texas Veterans Health Care System in San Antonio, Texas has an opening for a CPE Palliative Care position opening early January, 2009.(Stipend $28,130 with benefits)

The Harris Methodist Health System in Fort Worth, Texas offers two separate CPE Residency programs accredited by the Association for Clinical Pastoral Education. Stipends for both settings are: $24,400, plus a choice of three co-pay insurance plans, and accruement of 22+ days of personal time annually, including vacation days, sick days, and holidays. Both settings require in-house On-Call duty one night per week.
Harris Methodist Fort Worth Hospital, Fort Worth, TX
1. Harris Methodist Fort Worth Hospital is a Level II trauma and general hospital with almost every major patient care area: including trauma, ER, neurology, a multitude of women’s services, 100 cardiac beds, oncology, and several ICU/CCU areas. Students in this context are challenged by the crisis nature of this setting. Students average 84 deaths per year in this context. Two people are on duty within HMFW at all times, usually meaning a CPE Resident and a Staff Chaplain. HMFW has a Director of Pastoral Care, five Staff Chaplains, one full-time CPE Supervisor, and one part-time CPE Supervisor. Students are usually drawn to the rapid pace here, and intensity of of the trauma setting. Seven first-year CPE Residents are placed here, along with one Second-year resident.
2. Harris Methodist HEB Hospital in Bedford, Texas is a 284-bed general hospital with an active ER, oncology, ICU, Neonatal ICU, women’s services, and several med/surgical units. It is also home to the Harris Methodist Springwood Psychiatric Hospital, providing inpatient and outpatient services for adolescent, adult, and substance abuse programs. Students visit with the 70 patients per day at the Edwards Cancer Center (outpatient radiation). Overall, students have access to about 350 to 400 patients daily. Many students are drawn by an interest in chemical/alcohol dependency, 12-step groups, psychological illnesses, and by sitting in on active patient groups. HEB has a Director of Pastoral Care, one Staff Chaplain, one CPE Supervisor, four first-year CPE Residents, and one Second-Year CPE Resident. First-year Residents average 65 deaths a year.
